Disaster Reporting Guidelines

How figures get on these pages — and how mistakes get off them.

One source, one voice

Every figure on a major-incident page is shown exactly as its source stated it, under that source's own name and update time. Figures from different sources are never added together, averaged, or silently picked between — when sources disagree, both counts stay visible.

Preliminary means preliminary

Early tolls move. Every incident page carries a disclaimer banner saying so, and every figure carries the time its source reported it — not the time you read it.

Automation never publishes

Software watches source pages for changes and drafts updates, including AI-assisted drafts — but nothing reaches the public without a human pressing approve. Satellite damage estimates are the sole exception: structured machine data, clearly labeled as estimates subject to revision.

Corrections

Wrong numbers get fixed, not hidden: corrected boards keep their history in the open, and unpublished material stays unpublished. Event listings carry a public report button — a repeatedly-reported listing returns to human review automatically.

Donations

Relief links always point outward to official funds and established portals. This site never collects or processes donation payments.
